History and Expertise
The
large, new and spacious building of Bungendore Rural Services has a
lot of rural supplies on display, through which it is worth perusing.
For example, there are pumping and irrigation systems. These range and extend from fountain pumps and domestic watering to broad acre irrigators. There is a special emphasis on water saving micro-systems and grey water use.
There are mowers and mulchers, chainsaws and brushcutters, along with pet and stock feeds and vet products: all are readily available at very competitive prices.
Specialist
staff are on hand to advise in all major product lines.

Business
Bungendore
Rural Services
is a family business
that has operated in the town for 23 years.
It began with a plant nursery back in 1980 when Lois and Milton Simms retired from jobs in academia for what they thought would be a quiet rural pursuit. Immediately there were demands for irrigation systems, landscape design and materials and machinery. And so the business grew.
Daughter
Katherine completed a degree in Landscape Design and son Greg came to help
out "for a few weeks" and stayed.
CRT Store
Greg
is now the General Manager of what has become a large enterprise with a staff
of twelve.
Greg and Milton are very enthusiastic about their recent membership to the powerful independent buying group Combined Rural Traders. (CRT). This will enable them to better serve an ever growing and discriminating rural population. Greg stresses that this membership will mean even more competitive prices for the consumer, and access to a much wider range of leading brands in rural products.
The company is constantly on the lookout for new products. Greg is very interested in the use of solar power for pumping and other farm systems.
There is a strong service arm to BRS. Presently Greg is installing a large irrigation system for Goulburn City Council, and for the company, the installation and repair of pumping, irrigation, and sewage systems is routine.
To
ensure the highest standard of service, BRS runs a workshop with qualified
mechanics. Their motto is "We service what we sell".
Horticulture
Milton,
who is a qualified horticulturalist, is working on greenhouse designs. In
the course of his study he has visited many greenhouse manufacturers in the
UK and elsewhere.
He believes the Canberra climate is suited to greenhouse culture and aims to manufacture and supply affordable greenhouses and plastic covered greenhouses and their many accessories.
Lois Simms will be remembered for her years in the Bungendore Garden Centre and her great love and knowledge of roses. Milton has also pursued an interest in roses and is currently working with the National Capital Authority on the re-design of the Old Parliament House rose gardens.
BRS keeps in stock a wide range of garden and farm supplies.
A popular service is the landscape supplies section which provides a wide range of bulk materials by truck or trailer.
Many Canberra customers call in for garden supplies as part of a weekend visit to Bungendore.
